Chinese Medicine for fertility and pregnancy support
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine are being increasingly used to treat gynaecological problems, particularly for improving fertility and facilitating IVF protocols.
With it’s effect on regulating hormones and reducing the negative effects of stress on the body, acupuncture has long been known to regulate the menstrual cycle and can sometimes assist in producing a positive pregnancy result in as little as three or four visits. Of course, infertility is usually a bit more complicated and may require months of treatment, including herbal support. This treatment needs to be tailored to the woman’s condition at different points in the monthly cycle and will focus on hormone stimulation, egg production, uterine lining and various other factors affecting general health and metabolism.
Similarly, for those undergoing or about to under go IVF, acupuncture has been shown to improve the success rate of IVF embryo transfer. Once pregnancy is achieved, acupuncture and herbs are used to help reduce the risk of miscarriage, and to deal with problems ranging from morning sickness, back pain, fatigue and fluid, as well as preparation for labour and birth.
